FEB 22 Worship: “Lord, Teach Us to Pray” Luke 11:1-13

To ask to be taught something implies you don’t know how to do it. What do we need to be taught about prayer? Don’t you just talk to God? The disciples must have seen something in Jesus’ prayer life that they were lacking. What was it? What do we need to learn about prayer?

FEB 22 Sunday School (Barron Hall): “Keep It Simple”

Jesus is not difficult to understand. He’s just difficult to follow! When asked to teach his disciples to pray, he did not belittle them. He made it simple with a 31-word prayer that actually rhymed in the original language. Easy to remember. Deep in its content. Prayer doesn’t have to be formal, or fancy, or flowery. Keep it simple.

FEB 22 Supper Presentation (Barron Hall): “Keep It Real”

"When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases…” (Matthew 6:7a). Jesus must have heard some long prayers in his day! Prayer is not informing the God of the Universe of our situation. We can safely assume God already knows all that. So, what is it? A Wish List? Nope. An attempt to change God’s mind? Uh-huh. What is “real prayer?"

FEB 23 Supper Presentation (Barron Hall): “Keep It Up!”

We have biblical evidence that Jesus prayed a lot. Before he chose the disciples he prayed all night. When he received the bad news that his cousin John the Baptist had been executed, he withdrew into prayer. After the feeding of the 5,000 he went into the mountains to pray. In the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross, he prayed. Even Jesus was not a “Do-It-Yourselfer!” He modeled for us a life of prayer, more than just words
